[dvd::rip] svcd

Subject: [dvd::rip] svcd

Good day all. Sorry for the basic question, but I'm pretty new to video under
linux. I'm trying to backup a couple dvd's that my son has (he's 4 and has
destroyed 3 so far). He's not going to be too particular about quality. I'd
like to rip the dvd's to svcd. I've read many different ways to do this, and
honestly I'm just getting confused. I'm hoping someone will forward their
recipe for doing this. Should I rip and then run transcode on the ripped
files? Or would it be better to encode to divx and then do the divx->svcd
encoding. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Is uniformity attainable? Millions of innocent men, women, and
children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt,
tortured, fined, imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards
uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one half
of the world fools, and the other half hypocrites.
