This is because you've likely selected ogg vorbis for audio. As this
codec does not produce exact file sizes, dvdrip has to do the audio
first, as dvdrip doesn't support splicing of audio files. See if you get
better/different results using mp3.
Don't forget there is some audio processing at the end, but this is just
merging the video and audio into one file. This will happen fastest on
the NFS node if you don't have a network as fast as the filesystem. I
can't explain the performance loss you experience having the NFS node
also encoding -- it works fine for me. I would suggest this is an OS
issue. What OS are you running?
Additionally, there is no way to specify which jobs/tasks to run on
which node. The only thing dvdrip does in this regard is giving audio
and file merging tasks to the machine to which filesystem is local (i.e.
the NFS server.), which may also be why audio is happening last --
dvdrip is looking for the filesystem node and isn't finding it.
