dvd::rip just "tries" systematically a range from frame sizes
calculating AR error, BPP and stuff printing this in the Zoom
Calculator's list. Probably reading this helps understanding the Zoom
Calculator...

Then the Zoom Calculator isn't for you...

I think we're spinning around here and the discussions gets useles...
You want (but currently cou can't):

  a) automatically clip borders in clip1
(we know this is to be implemented after my first reply)
  b) enter a width manually (720)
  c) let dvd::rip calculate the height automatically, results
     in nearly perfect AR
  d) if you want to have fast resizing, you need to correct
the values manually to fulfill the requirements, introducing
small AR errors again. But probably you don't want fast resizing
at all, since a HQ rip is apparently what you want...

Then you probably shouldn't do any resizing. Of course you have an
anamorphic video then, which need to be resized on playback, just like
any DVD.

That's because the neccessary requirements are not met.

Again: refer to the docs.

Did you read this?

You're using the on-the-fly mode, which is known to be slow. Rip first,
and preview frame grabbing will just take a second.
