[dvd::rip] Ringing audio

Summary: I hear a "ringing" quality to the audio when playing a movie created
with dvdrip.

It sounds like high-frequency distortion, and it's quite painful to listen to.
I can understand the dialogue.

I get this using AVI/mp3 and with OGM/ogg.  I hear it when playing with
mplayer or xine.  I don't hear it if I play the vobs directly with mplayer.
I hear it with two unrelated movies.  I have tried all manner of audio
settings combinations, and it's always there (44100, 48000, different quality
settings, etc).

I checked the FAQ and searched the mailing list, but I'm not even sure what to
search for.
