[dvd::rip] ntpl, USE flags, gentoo building?

Hi there,

with all the talk about NPTL or not NPTL I am wondering if anyone can
suggest a good set of USE flags for a gentoo box intended primarily for
running dvdrip?

Also, I am still unclear whether NPTL is a good thing or a bad thing in
general. Even less clear as to whether its good or bad for dvdrip.

It certainly seems that one has to jump through about a bazillion hoops
one way or the other!
