[dvd::rip] read dvd contents doesn't work with existing dvd image?

i pointed dvd::rip 0.97.2 at a folder with a dvd copied into it, clicked 'read 
dvd table of contents' and nothing happens. no message in the log or anything. 
I can click on it as much as i want with no response, and there's nothing to 
indicate that it even tries to do anything. I tried both the root folder and 
the VIDEO_TS folder to no avail, both 'workaround nptl' and without..

makes it rather tricky, as all the other options are greyed out until this 
step works ;)

xine plays the movie just fine btw

any ideas?
