glibc, not gcc. gcc is a compiler. glibc is the standard C library that
everything links against unless its the kernel or its compiled statically.

My default gcc is 4.0....although there is a 3.4 on the system. I'm guessing
that 4.0 at-least is with ntpl....?
Should I re-compile a special gcc with linuxthreads, and use that to compile
the the stuff on which dvd::rip depends, or will doing so likely break more
than it fixes??
I'm on very shaky ground here...
