Thanks for the information I will try that and let you know how it goes.
I did however get over the problem another way as follows.
I am running a KDE desktop - 3.2 - and by right clicking on the .mpg file in 
the /home/bill/Data/My_Video/MillionDollarBabe/avi/002 I had the option of 
using K3b ver 11.16 to make a SVCD image.
This was succesful and I now have the Million Dollar Babe film on 2 CDs in 
SVCD format.
K3b 11.16 uses vcdx build 0.7.20 to create the cue and bin files and then 
cdrdao 1.1.9 to burn, and will work in the VFAT file system.
Perhaps you could use this as part of your burn operation so that dvd::rip can 
be usable on VFAT systems for users such as me who still need dual boot with 
Windows.
