[dvd::rip] Frame Grabbing *and* transcoding - not working

Subject: [dvd::rip] Frame Grabbing *and* transcoding - not working
From: "Pete" <gamer1010@xxxxxxxxxxx>
Date: Sat, 5 Nov 2005 13:56:45 -0500
Greetings!

I'm having a problem getting dvd::rip working. At one point, everything was
working just fine, but I since a component was updated a few months ago
(using yum) I have not been able rip since. Although I'm not able to
identify when / why things broke, even a wipe and re-install of my system
hasn't been able to restore things to a working state.

Here are the symptoms:

I can read the DVD table of contents and it appears to rip a track
successfully, however, the system spins for about 10 minutes on "Grabbing
preview" ... until finally it reports "transcode can't find this frame. Try
forcing slow frame grabbing". Slow frame grabbing results in the same
problem / message.

I'm running Fedora Core 4 (Linux 2.6.13-1.1532_FC4 #1 Thu Oct 20 01:30:08
EDT 2005 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux)

Here are the relevant component lists:

perl-Video-DVDRip 0.52.6-1.2.fc4

libdvdcss 1.2.9-1.2.fc4

libdvdread 0.9.4-8cvs.2.fc4

mjpegtools 1.6.3-0.2.rc2.2.fc4

ogmtools 1.5-1.2.fc4

subtitleripper 0.3.4-2.2.fc4

transcode 1.0.0-2.2.fc4

(I've also tried transcode 0.6.14-1.1.fc3 with the same results)

I've tried the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 NPTL workaround ... with the same
results.

For devices, I'm using /dev/hdc as the DVD device and /media/cdrom as the
mount point.

I've seen similar posts about the frame grabbing issue, but no resolutions.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated ...

Thanks!

- Pete
