Hi there,
sorry for my kind of monologue - only once interupted by Jörn. I hope that
these mails are at least interesting for someone else.
For the audio sync issue: I found out that this was specific to that movie
I was encoding - other movies work fine.
For the mpeg2enc & mplex options: Using the "dvd::rip default" settings (5
with mpeg2enc, 4 with mplex) I recieve mpeg files which nearly have the
same size - as selected via "Target media". Using both "4" with mpeg2enc &
mplex I get the same amount of files, but the last one is not of the same
size as the former ones.
I assume that this has to do with a kind of vbr, but I didn't find any
information on the net which describes the (technical) difference between
the "user SVCD" and "standard SVCD" and the impact on the disk size/amount
yet. Only found some discussions regarding this topic here on the mailing
list...
Cheers,
Jan (again)

UPDATE: Now I listened to my happily generated and finally correct
splitted mpegs, and there is a big audio sync issue (about one second
delay) I didn't encounter with any VCD yet.
Right now I'm encoding with the "4" option both in mpeg2enc and mplex.
If that doesn't help I'll play around with transcode's -M/-D options.
And if that doesn't help I'm switching back to VCD :-(
Frustrated,
Jan

Hi Jörn,
many thanks for your reply.

The only thing I found is a message from you stating that this seems
to be a bug and will be fixed in the "next release":
http://www.exit1.org/archive/dvdrip-users/2003-02/msg00122.html
Either you forgot to change this or you changed it back (or didn't
change it in the first place) for a good reason.
I think that mplex-ing with -f 4 is always a good thing when demanding
a "Standard SVCD", but I can't find any reason why not encoding with
-F 4. Maybe I'll encode one movie both ways and do some testing with
various stand-alone players... ...next week there will be cheap
SVCD-capable DVD players at Aldi ;-)
Cheers,
Jan
