The problem is with the different distroes this might not work. Being a
seasoned linux user (used it since 1996, back in the good ol' days with only
manual installation and 15-20 floppy disks) It's been my experience that not
all distroes are as easy to install things from source. I've used RedHat
before, and dealing with the dependency hell that creates is not an easy
task.
I agree with you I wish it was as easy as just using a ./install_dvdrip
command, but for rpm based distroes it just isn't so, and would probably
never be. Since every package is compiled with one compiler you often finds
that you can't use the rpm's available and then have to go search for some.
But then there might be easy to use rpm packages available. Maybe one way to
make it easier would be to collect all the rpm's needed in one place.
I really can't tell, I've been with linux too long now, and I have to admit,
Gentoo is my favourite distro. It's by far the easiest to install new
software, but then it's a bit harder to install.
OK, finished ranting now, I really liked dvdrip, don't use it that much any
longer. Doing most from the command line these days :-)
