[dvd::rip] Newbie help request: won't start 2nd pass

Formatted my drives, wiped out Windows for good! Felt good. Reinstalled 
Mandriva carefully and was careful to install DVD::rip stable with all 
the right dependencies. It rips the disc fine but won't transcode. To 
clarify - it will transcode until it is 99% done with the 1st pass and 
then won't complete and begin the 2nd pass. Am really enjoying this 
software and am eager to get it going again. Am using it to convert 
'MY' DVDs (fair use) to 320x184 (usually 184) so I can view them on my 
PalmPilot. My goal is to convert all of our videos for in-car, waiting 
room, patio/porch, bedtime use. Much easier to transport than a 
portable DVD player since I am carrying my palmPilot with me all the 
time anyhow. Have tried .avi/ffmpeg and .avi/xvid and .avi/divx. It 
takes so long to do the first pass (several hours) that wanted to ask 
some questions before I try any more. So where do I start? Transcode? 
Well known bug? I got a bad version of something? Some setting is 
wrong? It worked so well before I formatted my drives. Thanks to all
