[dvd::rip] different audio tracks for different video tracks, dvdrip tak

Subject: [dvd::rip] different audio tracks for different video tracks, dvdrip takes the wrong one

Debian unstable, kernel 2.6.13.2, dvdrip 0.52.6, transcode 1.0.2,
two-pass-encoding to mpeg4 and ogg.

Hello,

with some DVDs (mostly of older films, having several mono tracks) I get a
problem in the "merging audio" stage. However, the problem is the second
encoding pass which finishes almost immediately. I found out that although
transcode doesn't really give an error when run from the command-line, the
problem is the audio track.

The DVD I'm currently fiddling around with has about four audio tracks for its
main video track; however, a different video track has only one audio track, as
far as I'm able to see, and I think the problem is that dvdrip allows me to
select from all four audio tracks for all video tracks. Thus, for a specific
chapter, the wrong audio track is selected.

To give an example, this is the transcode command that dvdrip creates:
transcode -J smartyuv=threshold=10:Blend=1:diffmode=2:highq=1 -m
/mnt/pandora/unnamed/avi/003/unnamed-003-00.ogm -R 2 -K -w 1199,50 -i
/mnt/pandora/unnamed/vob/003 -y ffmpeg,ogg --print_status 20 -F mpeg4
--a52_drc_off -B 24,26,8 -x vob -b 128 -a 0 -H 10 -o
/mnt/pandora/unnamed/avi/003/unnamed-003.ogm -f 25

I found out:

(1) When I omit the "-a" option altogether, transcode shows in the informations
it gives at the beginning, that it can't find "audio track 0". However, video
encoding starts.

(2) The command line above (i.e. as dvdrip creates it) gives NO error in the
information lines, but everything finishes after some seconds without any
relevant errors. The created audio file has only some few KB.

(3) When I specify the audio track "-a 4", everything works, and there's real
audio in the audio file. I think it's the only audio available for that track.
FYI: dvdrip probed "0" to be an English mono audio track, and "4" to be an
English stereo one.

(4) When I view the VOB file with a recent "mplayer -v", there's only one audio
track shown, an English one (with the AID 131, but I think that's mplayer's
nomenclature.

If I should post some log files, specify which ones. I didn't want to post lots
of output that isn't relevant for you.

Have a nice day & thanks for the great work,
Cato Minor.
