dvd::rip currently can't author DVD's and does no requantizing resp. 
shrinking. It transcodes to AVI/OGG/MPG and supports several video/audio
codecs but no DVD target out of the box.

I don't know XDVDShrink, but I know people using K9Copy and being glad 
with it. Additionally you could take a look at lxdvdrip, which is a 
command line tool and has a good reputation as well.
