I think that's not necessary. Quoting the perlfunc manpage:

  -w  File is writable by effective uid/gid.

So this is the expected behaviour. It's up to dvd::rip (and thus to me 
;) to catch this case. Either try to create a file in the specified 
directory, or mess with /etc/mtab, but I think touching a test file is 
easier and more reliable.

Noted on my TODO list.
