I have just purchased a Sony D-VE7000S which has a 480x234 display. For
2x1 display such as this, what is a good strategy for ripping a 4x3
(720x480)?
Cut & resize would be a good idea, imho.
Is it a good idea to use DVD::RIP's Clip&Zoom interface to
reduce the resolution to the target resolution?
That is a very good idea :-)
Or do I just rip the
720x480 and let the device itself do the clipping and zooming?
It's clear that the 'device' got a lot of work to do. If you know the
target resolution, why won't you rip and recode it to it?
I don't
care too much about the size of the resulting image but a smaller avi is
more convenient.
So here you go.
I guess there are two parts to the question:
1. in terms of viewing quality is it better to let the end player do
the resizing or is it better to use dvd::rip?
Use dvd::rip.
2. when ripping 4x3 to a 2x1 display, what do I do? Do I produce
shoulders or just put up with the stretched image?
I would cut a 2:1 part out of the higher resolutioned 4:3 DVD picture.
