Has anyone successfully run dvdrip under Fedora Core 5?
I'm brand new at this and having no luck at all: dvdrip hangs at some
point for every dvd I've tried.
All of these look like (AFAICT) problems with various parts of transcode
on FC5. If I should take this up on the transcode list, I will, but
frankly, I have a hard time reading even the subject lines over there,
so I figured I'd start here ;-)
The story so far:
Updated FC5 +
$ rpm -qa | egrep -i 'dvd|transc|mpeg|magick|ogm'
ImageMagick-6.2.5.4-4.2.1.fc5.3
libdvdread-0.9.4-4.lvn5
perl-Video-DVDRip-0.97.10-1.fc5
dvd+rw-tools-5.21.4.10.8-6.2.1
libdvdcss-1.2.9-2.lvn5
mpeg2dec-0.4.0-5.b.lvn5
ffmpeg-0.4.9-0.22.20060407.lvn5
transcode-1.0.2-3.lvn5
ogmtools-1.5-2.lvn5
lsdvd-0.16-2.fc5
1) First run: hangs scanning transcode (compare & logo plugins).
I found a patched rpm at Freshrpms that fixes this
(transcode-1.0.2-25.rhfc5.at.i386.rpm) but still had the following
problems, so I stayed with rpms from Livna.
2) Hangs extracting subitiles: no solution yet
3) Hangs extracting preview images (for clip/zoom): no solution yet
These last two seem to be transcode failing to detect that it's
sub-processes have finished, because if I copy the commands from the
dvdrip log and run them separately, they seem to work (e.g. temp files
have the correct images) but never exit. If I kill the subprocess
manually, transcode & dvdrip throw errors and give up.
Also, the last two hangs happen on different dvds: some disks fail at
one, some fail at the other. I've yet to find a disk that I can do a
complete rip on (I need the subtitles).
If I try the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL trick, nothing runs:
$ LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19 dvdrip
/usr/bin/perl: error while loading shared libraries: libresolv.so.2:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
$ LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19 transcode
transcode: error while loading shared libraries: libpthread.so.0: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory
Any suggestions? Anyone having success with Fedora?
dvdrip is a very nice tool--great job--and I hope these glitches are
fixable.
