FYI: I am a 71 year old guy. Started out many years ago with Win 32 and DOS.
No formal training whatsoever. Changed to Linux RedHat 4 or something many
years ago because I hated the Win 95/98 crap. Been a SuSE user since
5.something. Love the freedom and flexibility. Been copying my
grandchildren's entertainment DVD's since whenever using transcode and mjpeg
tools from the CLI.

Joern,
I really appreciate your personal replies, which you should not have to do.
I did use the option to rip the dvd to hard disk option, and I'm sorry, but
the dvd WAS ripped to hard disk using DVD::RIP. The rip was made to a
directory /Datastorage/Willis/avi, a /tmp, and a /vob file. The /avi file
produces a /001/willis/001/dvdrip-info, the /tmp produces an ifo directory
and several other files including previews. The /vob file produces 5 separate
vob files.
I can view the separate vob's with mplayer or xine from the hard disk.

OK, since the VOB's were copied to hard disk, does that mean I must somehow
change to the directory holding the vob files in order to transcode them in
DVD::RIP? (as per above)

OK, looked at them all very carefully. Saw nothing that had not been done.

OK, hopefully that is what I did as per evidenced by the above statements.
Maybe my problem is because of the problem with the install process? See my
other thread re: DVD::RIP path question.
I really don't expect you to solve all of these questions. The user must
investigate and develop on his own if he can. All we need is the expertise
and guidance that developers like you that make these things available.
Again, I thank you for your patience. I would just like to make your wonderful
and probably very personally time-consuming application to work properly for
myself and others. Just don't know what other linux users would do without
dedicated people like you to further the growth and acceptance of FOSS.
