[dvd::rip] ripping stops short, incorrect framerate is the problem

Subject: [dvd::rip] ripping stops short, incorrect framerate is the problem

I have just begun using dvdrip and have continuously run into the same problem that a lot of others have. When I try to rip a dvd it stops, saying "ripping stopped short, this is most likely a problem with transcode, libdvdread, libdvdcss..." So after careful examination and a lot of googling and whatnot, I have somewhat narrowed down the problem...sorry, if I am way behind you guys here, but bare with me. When I read the dvd initially, it reports the framerate as 29.97 (which is the correct framerate) and it reports the total frames accordingly. But when I go to rip the dvd it stops short. Then when it redisplays the TOC after I close the error message window it shows the framerate as 23.976 and the total frames adjusted according to that. But when I went and watched the clip that got ripped, what do you know, it is complete. So, somewhere along the line something misinterpreted the framerate and only ripped at 23.976, hence the "ripping stopped short" error because it only ripped 23.976 frames per second instead of 29.97. That means that a 60 sec clip (which i've been experimenting on) should have 1798.2 total frames at 29.97, which is what is displayed initially. But after getting the error when I try to rip it says that only 1438.56 frames were ripped and then in the TOC it adjusts the framerate to 23.976 and the total to 1438.56. Sooo...I don't know where to go from here, this sounds like a problem with libdvdread or transcode. I have experimented with different version combinations of each one and have reached the same results. Because the clips are ripped completely, just at the wrong framerate, I assume that transcode throws away frames and rips at only 23.976 fps for some strange reason. Although this sucks because I lose a lot of initial quality, I intend to transcode to xvid at 23.976 fps, which has been successful with no noticeable artifacts or other crap. I would love to rip at 29.97 without error. Has anyone else realized this? i read awhile ago about jorn discovering something similar. I have noticed no difference with subtitles on/off either.

mandriva 2006 2.6.12 with transcode-1.0.2-0.1.20060plf, libdvdread3-0.9.4.5mdk, libdvdcss2-1.2.9-2plf,Video-DVDRip-0.97.6-0.1.20060plf
i've also tested the source and plf rpm dvdrip 0.97.12 with the same problem.
