[dvd::rip] color of ripped vobsub subtitles

Hi,

I am using dvdrip 0.98.4-0.1 (debian package) to encode a DVD into AVI
and then rip the subtitles separately in vobsub format.

When I try to play the avi file in Mplayer, the subtitles are found
but they are grey and hard to read.  They show correctly when I play
the DVD directly.  Is there any way I can remedy this?
