Sometimes when I use the 2-pass xvid4 encoding the process will lock up
near the end of the first pass (at 99.17%) and won't move. All the
indicators (fps, ETA, and such) also stay frozen. The processes aren't
using any CPU and seem to idle until issued a TERM or KILL. Nothing of
interest is in the log (it ends at the 90% done line.) I am running
transcode 1.0.3 and dvdrip 0.98.6.
Previously I was able to "correct" this problem by uninstalling
transcode, recompile, and reinstall (I'm on Gentoo, so each "install" is
also a compile by its nature.) This can't be an issue with missing
compile-time options in transcode or a dependency because the same
compile flags have worked before and my versions haven't changed. At
this point a complete uninstall/reinstall of dvdrip, transcode, and all
relevant dependences still show the same problem no matter how many
times I do it.
I see the exact same behavior when I take the commands listed in
dvdrip's "Debug" menu under "Show Transcode Commands" and run it from a
terminal window. The progress indicator goes up to the same point in
the first pass and just hangs until aborted. The user running the
command has read/write/execute access to the entire ~/dvdrip-data
subdirectory and everything in it.
Finally, 1-pass xvid4 or h264 encoding works fine.
If this should be re-posted to the transcode list just let me know and
I'll redirect my inquiry.
Thanks.
