[dvd::rip] read DVD table of contents failed

I get the following in the log while trying to rip the title..

my dvd device is /dev/hdc, and if I just do
lsdvd -a -n -c -s -v /dev/hdc

I get tons of data about the dvd...so...any ideas?  thanks
