[dvd::rip] dvd::rip can't find imagemagick

hello, i'm running the buggy kubuntu 9.10 karmic on an
Athlon-AMD64x2-6000+ and dvd::rip can't find imagemagick. yes it is
installed, in /usr . i also installed it from tarball sources in
/usr/local , i uninstalled dvd::rip from ubuntu packages and installed
it from tarball sources in /usr/local, /usr/bin and /usr/local/bin  are
in my $PATH (output: hipsterical@shangri-la:~$ echo $PATH
/home/hipsterical/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games) 

but still dvd::rip complains about imagemagick missing and  refuses to
do  something useful.  i'm clueless, please give me some hint.
