Re: [dvd::rip] dvd::rip errors out while ripping title.

Many DVDs have read-errors built into them: ARccOS structured copy protection.

What I do when this happens is use ddrescue to make an ISO image:

        ddrescue -n -b 2048 /dev/scd0 name-of-disk.iso name-of-disk.log

Depending on the read errors, this can take many hours to do. But once it is finished I mount the ISO:

   sudo mount -o loop -t iso9660 name-of-disk.iso /mnt/iso

And run dvdrip on the mounted ISO. A few times, I had to kill ddrescue after 24 hours, but the ISO was still mountable, and the rip went off without a hitch.

Hope this helps.

Hello everybody.

I'm tearing out what little of my hair I have left over this issue. Lately, dvd::rip errors out while ripping any DVD title to the harddisk. The ripping part of the job gets to about 85% on any DVD I have and then just stops. This happens whether I am ripping from a physical DVD, a DVD ISO mounted in loopback, or a DVD copied into my filesystem. I tried a new copy of the DVD, thinking that it could be damaged. I tried a new DVD-RW drive, thinking it could be damaged. When it fails, the entire dvd::rip program needs to be shutdown and restarted, not to say it "crashes", but it is in an unusable state after a failed rip. Anybody experience this problem? Hear of this problem? Know how to fix this problem? Attached are logs, and other info from dvd::rip.
