Hello,
unfortunately i need to resurface the old problem. That's why i'm reply to the old thread.
I carefully read all the info and here are the results of my testings. Please let me know what else i should provide to help with identifying the root cause of the problem.
I tried version .10 and it didn't work either.

[ptica@server ~]$ uname -a
Linux server.home 2.6.18-164.15.1.el5.centos.plus #1 SMP Wed Mar 17 20:01:32 EDT 2010 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
[ptica@server ~]$ rpm -qa | grep dvdrip
lxdvdrip-1.70-1.el5.rf
dvdrip-0.98.11-1.el5.rf

Immediately after invoking the dvdrip:

ptica 6144 1 0 20:09 ? 00:00:00 knotify [kdeinit]

ptica 6181 3407 0 20:21 ? 00:00:03 /usr/bin/konsole

ptica 6182 6181 0 20:21 pts/1 00:00:00 /bin/bash

ptica 6238 3390 42 20:30 ? 00:00:01 /usr/bin/perl /usr/bin/dvdrip

ptica 6247 6182 0 20:30 pts/1 00:00:00 ps -ef

Click on READ TOC:

1. DVD starts to spin for a few seconds.

ptica 6181 3407 0 20:21 ? 00:00:03 /usr/bin/konsole

ptica 6182 6181 0 20:21 pts/1 00:00:00 /bin/bash

ptica 6238 3390 6 20:30 ? 00:00:02 /usr/bin/perl /usr/bin/dvdrip

ptica 6253 6238 0 20:30 ? 00:00:00 sh -c ( execflow lsdvd -a -n -c -s -v -Op \/dev\/hdb 2>/dev/null && echo EXECFLOW_OK

ptica 6254 6253 0 20:30 ? 00:00:00 sh -c ( execflow lsdvd -a -n -c -s -v -Op \/dev\/hdb 2>/dev/null && echo EXECFLOW_OK

ptica 6255 6254 0 20:30 ? 00:00:00 lsdvd -a -n -c -s -v -Op /dev/hdb

ptica 6256 6182 0 20:30 pts/1 00:00:00 ps -ef

DVD stops. Nothing displayed in the TOC. READ TOC is disabled.

ptica 6238 3390 3 20:30 ? 00:00:02 /usr/bin/perl /usr/bin/dvdrip

ptica 6253 6238 0 20:30 ? 00:00:00 [sh] <defunct>
